Legislator Anker Announces Suffolk’s First Cybersecurity Report

HAUPPAGUE, NY – Legislator Anker joined her colleagues at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge to announce Suffolk County’s first cybersecurity risk assessment report to identify and reduce cyber vulnerabilities in the county. Among the recommendations being implemented are cybersecurity awareness trainings for all county employees and expanded participation of Suffolk’s cybersecurity working group, which will now include representatives from Nassau County to enhance intelligence sharing.

“In order for government to stay ahead of the hackers, scammers, and cyber terrorists, there must be collaboration and communication with all levels of government, from local to federal, and all agencies within the county,” said Legislator Anker. “That will be our advantage in dealing with cybercrimes and cyberattacks.”

In 2018, Legislator Anker introduced legislation (IR. 1132-2018) directing the county to coordinate its cyber security initiatives. Part of that resolution included the completion of the risk assessment report to be distributed internally to help the county combat cybersecurity issues.
