Legislator Anker Reminds Residents that HEAP Applications Are Now

Suffolk County Office for the Aging has begun reviewing applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).

HAUPPAUGE, NY – Starting November 12th, Suffolk County Office for the Aging will begin reviewing applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). The federally funded program provides utility assistance to low-income New Yorkers to help cover home energy costs.

“Winter is nearing and home energy costs are rising,” said Legislator Anker. “I’d like to thank the Office for the Aging for providing our seniors assistance with their HEAP applications. Everyone deserves access to warmth during the cold winter.”

Applicants who wish to submit a HEAP application must be:

  • 60 or older, or
  • Under 60 and receiving Social Security Disability, or
  • Under 60 and receiving Supplemental Security Income Code A

For information concerning heating and utility emergencies, please call one of the following Department of Social Services Fuel Centers and Emergency Energy and Utility Sites:

  • Riverhead: 631-852-3631
  • Smithtown: 631-853-8847
  • South West: 631-854-6684

The Office for the Aging is the designated Area Agency on Aging Under the Older Americans Act. The department administers federal, state and county programs for persons 60 years of age and older.
