Miller Place-Rocky Point's St. Patrick's Day Parade Postponed

The 70th annual parade was postponed amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.

MILLER PLACE-ROCKY POINT, NY — The 70th Annual Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick's Day Parade was postponed, the Friends of St. Patrick announced in a news release. It was scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday before concerns over the new coronavirus led to its cancellation.

"Out of concern for our revelers and marchers, we feel obligated to postpone the 70th annual Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day parade," the organization said.

The parade organizers received a notice from the Suffolk County Department of Health, and citing their "continuing spirit of cooperation with the local authorities," decided to postpone the parade.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone released a statement that all St. Patrick's Day parades throughout the county are postponed or cancelled.

"Out of an abundance of caution as part of the County’s ongoing response to COVID-19, the Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Service has recommended that parades scheduled for March 14 or March 15 be postponed," he said.

The Miller Place-Rocky Point organizers thanked all sponsors and participants for supporting the parade.

"While the Friends of St. Patrick are naturally disappointed to have to make this decision, it is the right decision," they said. "We know how important the event is to our community and the decision was not made lightly. We will be back bigger and better than ever at our next parade and will celebrate twice as much next time."

No rescheduled date has been announced.
