Long Island Weather: April Snow On The Way

Snow total estimates have increased for Monday on Long Island.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Long Island. It will be in effect from 2 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday.

Most of the island will likely see 3-4 inches of snow accumulation. Snowfall rates of around an inch per hour are possible Monday morning.

"Plan on slippery road conditions, including during the morning commute on Monday," the winter weather advisory says. "Expect reduced visibilities at times."

The snow will stop falling around noon and it should melt quickly under the April sun.

Sunday- A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. West wind 14 to 17 mph.

Sunday Night- A chance of rain after 2am, mixing with snow after 4am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 30. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Monday- Snow, mainly before noon. High near 42. Wind chill values between 25 and 35. Northeast wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Monday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Tuesday- A chance of rain before noon, then showers likely after noon. Cloudy, with a high near 49. Southeast wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Tuesday Night- A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 45.

Wednesday- Showers likely, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 58. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Wednesday Night- A 30 percent chance of showers before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.
