Long Island Weather: Numerous Thunderstorms To Produce Flooding Rains, Damaging Winds

BREAKING: Isolated weak tornadoes are possible later Monday on Long Island, the National Weather Service says.

Strong, potentially severe, thunderstorms are expected to lash Long Island on Monday. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the entire island. A flash flood watch for Nassau County will begin at noon and last until 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Things will likely remain dry through Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. There's a chance of rain and thunderstorms during the evening commute, but the window of 8 p.m. until around midnight is when the risk of severe weather will be at its highest.

"The main threat is from strong gusty winds, but an isolated weak tornado is also possible," the NWS says.
