Long Island Firefighter Pleads Guilty To Stealing $23K
Authorities say the firefighter made 80 unauthorized ATM withdrawals from the fire department's account.
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY – A former Rocky Point firefighter pleaded guilty Thursday to stealing more than $23,000 from the department while serving as its treasurer, Suffolk County DA Tim Sini said.
David Crosby, 28, pleaded guilty yesterday to petty larceny, a Class A misdemeanor. Pursuant to the plea agreement, Crosby, of Rocky Point, will be required to pay full restitution to the fire department.
From 2017 to 2019, Crosby served as the treasurer of Rocky Point Fire Department’s North Shore Beach Company 2, located at 90 King Road. During that time, Crosby made about 80 unauthorized ATM withdrawals from the department’s account totaling $19,744.09, Sini said.

Crosby also stole $3,580 from a fundraiser held by the Rocky Point Fire Department during the fall of 2018 and winter of 2019. In total, Crosby stole $23,324.09 from the department.
The department became aware of the missing funds and referred the matter to the District Attorney’s Office. Crosby surrendered to the DA on Oct. 17.

“This is a just disposition that ensures the brave firefighters who serve the Rocky Point community will receive the full amount of money that was stolen from their department,”Sini said. “The theft of public funds will not be tolerated."
Crosby is scheduled to be sentenced by Acting Suffolk County Court Judge Richard T. Dunne on Jan. 14. He is expected to be sentenced to three years of probation in addition to the restitution judgment order in the amount of $23,324.09.
