The parcels will be purchased in partnership with the Town of Brookhaven with the County contributing 70% of the purchase price and the Town contributing 30%.

“I am proud to be part of the Suffolk County Legislature which has taken a strong lead in acquiring and protecting environmentally sensitive properties to protect our natural ecosystems and our vulnerable groundwater aquifer,” stated Legislator Sarah Anker.

"This is a great acquisition of open space in Middle Island. It will add to the already substantial preserved lands adjacent to it. Whiskey Road is increasingly becoming an alternate route to Middle Country Road, and preventing any future development along it is a smart move. The Middle Island Civic Association is grateful to the Suffolk County Legislature and Sarah Anker in particular for making this important purchase for all of us," said Gail Lynch-Bailey, MICA President.

The Environmental Trust Review Board conducted an appraisal process to determine the market value of the property and an offer was made and accepted by Stone Point Group, LLC. The passage of IR No. 1444 will allow Suffolk County to officially close on the sale of the property.
