BROOKLYN, NY — An art exhibit premiering at Brooklyn's Industry City this weekend won't just ask for a seat at the table for Black female artists — it will build a new one.

The "Last Supper" exhibit, launching on Saturday, plays on the iconic Last Supper scene of Jesus and his 12 apostles by bringing together 12 Black female artists who explore themes of representation and cultural histories, experiences and perceptions through their work.

"This exhibition aims to fill the dearth of Black female voices at the contemporary, metaphoric table," organizers wrote in a release. "Last Supper builds a new 'table' that values, elevates, and honors the voices of Black Women."

The exhibit will be available at Industry City and at 323 Canal St. in Manhattan until March 20, by appointment. It is presented by LatchKey Gallery and curated by Tamecca Seril.

The artists, in a variety of mediums, celebrate fellowship and the history of Black women artists finding solace in one another or organizing together, organizers said.

“Last Supper posits the creative union of Black Women Artists births both protective spaces of shelter and manumission from institutional norms and constraints ultimately producing a formidable balm and an expansive vernacular of disruptive art,” Seril said.
