Attention, Marvel Mavens: Captain America Lands in Prospect Park Aug. 10

Captain America, in statue form, will touch down in Prospect Park next Wednesday.

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN — Our nation's eponymous superhero will make his Prospect Park debut next Wednesday.

A statue of Captain America, his shield aloft, his visage grim and determined, will be unveiled in the park's Children's Corner on Aug. 10 at 1 p.m.

(The Children's Corner is just south of the Lefferts Historic House and adjacent to the park's carousel.)

Those on hand to celebrate the occasion include Axel Alonso, the editor in chief of Marvel Comics, Brooklyn Borough President (and Captain America booster) Eric Adams, the New York City Joint Service Color Guard, and Dave Cortes, who sculpted the piece.

There will also be a showing of Captain America: Civil War that evening at Long Meadow North.

The statue is currently on its way to Brooklyn from a turn at San Diego's Comic-Con. Prospect Park will host it for two weeks, before it moves to the Barclays Center, and then on to Sunset Park's future Bed Bath & Beyond for the rest of the year.
