Brooklyn Library's 'Bookmobile' Gets a Makeover, Launches Summer Tour

It's a big weekend for the Bookmobile.

The Bookmobile, a half-century-old summertime tradition of the Brooklyn Public Library system, will begin its 2015 tour with a bang and a block party this Sunday at the Williamsburg Flea.

“Attendees can check out a summer read from the Bookmobile’s collection, sign up for a library card, enter to win prizes, and sit on the grass with a book and a bite from one of Brooklyn Flea’s renowned vendors,” says the library in a statement.

They can also get a load of the Bookmobile’s brand-new look.

Brooklyn illustrator and popular Instagrammer Adam J. Kurtz recently “rewrapped” the city’s four operating Bookmobile vehicles in ”whimsical and eye-catching drawings,” says the library.

And this coming Sunday at noon, at 50 Kent Avenue between North 11 and North 12 streets, the public can join Kurtz for a “collaborative live drawing session” and a giveaway of his new book.

Throughout the rest of the summer, the four Bookmobiles — carrying a mobile collection of 6,000 titles — plan to stop by schools, day cares, homeless shelters, senior sites, health fairs, parks, and neighborhood festivals. You can also ask one of them to attend your event.

The Kidsmobile, on the other hand, operates on a more reliable schedule — included below.
