BROOKLYN, NY — Nearly 100 Citi Bike stations are officially on their way to South Slope, Windsor Terrace and Sunset Park.

Lyft, which runs Citi Bike, and the Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that they have officially launched their expansion of the bike-sharing network below 15th Street, which will eventually bring 93 new docking stations to Brooklyn.

"Throughout this pandemic, New Yorkers relied heavily on Citi Bike as a safe and reliable transportation option, and today we are thrilled to announce this new expansion farther into Brooklyn,” DOT Commissioner Henry Gutman said in a release. “The expansion brings essential infrastructure to vital and diverse neighborhoods, giving residents easy access to a sustainable, safe, and low-cost transportation alternative."

The new Citi Bike stations come after a months-long process of mapping out where in the neighborhoods the docks should go, including a "Suggest a Station" survey in late 2020 and an update to the station map this year.

The most recent map of where stations will be set up can be found here. Citi Bike's map of available docks shows that nearly all of the new docks are up and running.

When completed, the 93 stations will increase the existing stations in the area 40-fold.

The Brooklyn stations are the latest stage in Citi Bike's expansion plan across the five boroughs, which was announced last year as part of an initiative to make Citi Bike citywide.

Citi Bike, and cycling in general, has become more popular as New Yorkers look for new ways to get around during the coronavirus crisis.

The Citi Bike expansion is set to be completed by the end of 2023.

In Brooklyn, it will also include stations in Bed-Stuy, Brownsville, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, East Flatbush, Prospect Park South and Kensington.
