Free Movies In Prospect Park: What You Need To Know

Summer Movies Under the Stars launches in Prospect Park Wednesday night.

PROSPECT PARK -- Grab your bug spray and your kids, free outdoor movie season is here at last.

Prospect Park's Long Meadow North will be transformed into a starlit screening room Wednesday night when Summer Movies Under the Stars launches its 2018 season.

This year's movies selections were chosen by Nitehawk Cinemas, the movie house taking over the Pavilion Theater, and each film was once screened at the historic theater on Bartel-Pritchard Square.

It's free to come see any of the four family-friendly films and there will be live music an hour before the movies air at about 8:20 p.m. The meadow is accessible from the Grand Army Plaza, Garfield Place and Third Street park entrances.

The Wizard of Oz (July 18)

Musical Guest: The Highline Chamber Ensemble will play standards and songs from the soundtrack

Alice in Wonderland (July 25)

Musical Guest: Morricone Youth will play some pre-film psychedelic tunes

West Side Story (Aug. 1)

Musical Guest: Skyline Salsa Band will play ... you guessed it ... salsa music.

Space Jam (Aug. 8)

Musical Guest: Brooklyn DJ Dr. Israel will play 80s and 90s R&B and hip hop.
