July 4th Weekend Street Closures in Brooklyn

Find out which roads will be closed during the July 4th weekend in New York. If you're planning on driving, you won't be happy.

BROOKLYN, NY — Driving on the Fourth of July weekend will be a mess. The New York City Department of Transportation announced road closures for the holiday weekend, and things don't look good for motorists.

Saturday, July 2

  • Brooklyn-bound traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge will be restricted to two lanes from 2 am to 2 pm, and one lane from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Manhattan-bound traffic on the Brooklyn Bride will be restricted to two lanes from 1 am to 7 am, and one lane from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.
  • One tube of the Battery Park Underpass will be closed on Saturday from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. for the restoration of the electrical and mechanical systems damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The West Street Underpass will be open when the south tube (West Street to FDR Drive) is closed.
  • East 152nd Street between Jackson Avenue and Wales Avenue in the Bronx will be closed on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday, July 4

The following streets will be closed on Monday from 6 pm to 10 pm for the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks celebration:

  • Area bounded by Atlantic Avenue on the south; Old Fulton Street on the north; Hicks Street on the east; East River on the west (all inclusive)
  • Old Fulton Street between Hicks Street and Prospect Street
  • Cadman Plaza West between Prospect Street and Tillary Street
  • Front Street and Water Street between Old Fulton Street and Jay Street

Manhattan:

  • FDR Drive between Battery Park Underpass and East 63rd Street
  • South Street between Whitehall Street and Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place
  • FDR Drive Service Roads between Cherry Street and 63rd Street
  • Water Street between Whitehall Street and Fulton Street

Monday closings unrelated to fireworks:

  • Cliff Street between John Street and Fulton Street in Manhattan will be closed from noon to 6 p.m. for the 4th of July Block Party
  • Fulton Street between Water Street and Gold Street in Manhattan will be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Community Board #1 Great July 4th Fair
  • Glen Street between Victory Boulevard and Cannon Avenue, Cannon Avenue between Glen Street and Victory Boulevard, and Victory Boulevard between Cannon Avenue and Glen Street on Staten Island will be closed from noon to 3 p.m. for the Travis 4th of July Parade
  • Clove Road between Martling Avenue and Forest Avenue and Forest Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Manor Road on Staten Island will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the Arielle Newman/Pepper Martin Foot Race
