PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A long-awaited new Ample Hills Creamery location has opened in Park Slope.

The new scoop shop, which was first announced in 2018, officially opened its doors on Friday next to Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park, the former historic Pavilion Theatre.

“We know the community has been eager for us to open our doors at this location, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally scoop for our friends and neighbors at Prospect Park West,” CEO Michael Zapata said.

The 192 Prospect Park West storefront debuts in time for the brand's 10-year anniversary. It is the fifth Ample Hills location in Brooklyn and the 10th to open in New York City.

To celebrate the grand opening, Ample Hills will debut a Prospect Park-themed flavor called "Meet Me on the Long Meadow" that will pay homage to its location across from Brooklyn's backyard. The flavor includes "classic picnic staples," including sweet tea ice cream based with pieces of housemade, lemonade-iced cookies and black currant jam swirls.

Ample Hills will give proceeds from Meet Me on the Long Meadow to the Prospect Park Alliance for the first two weeks of business. It is also giving 10 percent off to all Alliance members, the company said.

“We created this new flavor to capture the essence of a true picnic experience, whether in the 1800s or 2000s. Our sweet tea ice cream base is infused with bergamot and our lemonade-iced cookies are the perfect, refreshing treat for a warm summer afternoon,” Director of Production Matt Scott said.

The scoop shop also includes a full selection of 24 flavors, shakes, floats and an array of toppings and sundaes.

Its interior has a floor-to-ceiling mural with the brand’s characters Walt the Cow, Whitty the Chicken and PB “Peanut Butter” the Pig enjoying scoops in Prospect Park.

The location has a large party room for events, a kids play area with children's books curated by Greenlight Bookstore and historic photos of Prospect Park.
