'Massive Evening' Planned For Brooklyn Bar Documentary Fundraiser

WINDSOR TERRACE, BROOKLYN — A fitting amount of beer, wine, Styrofoam containers and good-if-perhaps-hazy memories will kick off a crowdfunding campaign for a filmic ode to a beloved Brooklyn bar.

Filmmakers behind "Why Farrell's?" plan a Feb. 29 fundraiser launch party and community celebration at Shepherd's Hall on Prospect Park West.

It's a block away from Farrell's Bar & Grill — a Windsor Terrace watering hole famous for its cold taps and status as a community hub — that's the subject of the upcoming documentary.

Farrell's opened in 1933 and has survived stock market crashes, gentrification and more, wrote filmmakers Rob Martin and Jay Cusato of Park Slope Films.

They bill the film as "The story of a small town, in a big city" and plan to document the mark the bar and its people made on the community.

And some Farrell's characters featured in the film will be at the party, according to its website.

The organizers promise a "massive evening of exclusives."

"There will be clips from the film, your chance to take home one-of-a-kind local artwork created specifically for the event, Farrell’s memorabilia that has never before been available to the public, such as a bar stool, the absolute final styrofoam containers, and a few other surprises!" according to the website.

The event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $30 in advance, $35 at the door and $250 for a reserved table for 10, the website states. The funds will go toward the film's production and post-production costs, according to the filmmakers.
