Massive Heated Outdoor Dining Set-Up Opens At Industry City

The Brooklyn complex will set up its courtyards with tents and heated tables so diners can eat at its 38 vendors.

BROOKLYN, NY — A massive outdoor dining destination is up and running at the Industry City campus in Brooklyn.

The Sunset Park complex announced Wednesday that it has transformed three of its courtyards with heated tables and "breathable tents" so New Yorkers have a spot to eat food from its 38 vendors, which includes restaurants, distilleries, breweries and dessert spots.

The set-up comes days after indoor dining shut down in New York City amid a rising number of coronavirus cases.

“New Yorkers want to support small business and the hospitality industry as much as they can this season,” IC's Director of Development Jim Somoza said in a release. “They also want to have communal experiences in a safe and warm environment. We are uniquely suited to transform our courtyard space into a heated dining and drinking experience, essentially taking our indoor food hall outdoors."

The outdoor food hall set-up will start with heaters lining each building and HVAC systems, according to Industry City. Five tents will be set up in the three courtyards, totaling 12,000 square feet of dining space with the heated tables.

"Since the heat is created from the building’s already intact infrastructure, the outdoor heating ducts allow the tents to have open air circulation while remaining comfortable," Industry City said.

Seating in the courtyards is communal. Many of the 38 vendors available for takeout are serving out of their windows or private entryways to minimize traffic.
