NYC And Nearby Suburbs Get Failing Grades In Air Quality

It might not be a big surprise, but the findings of the American Lung Association's air quality reportcould be lethal for New Yorkers.

The health group released its 15th quality of air report Wednesday and noted that 22 of the 25 most ozone-polluted communities,including NYC, experienced a jump in ozone days from last year.

Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx all got F grades for ozone quality. Nearby suburbs that also received F grades include Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland counties.

The Association did not have data recorded for Brooklyn and Nassau County.

More than 27.8 million people live in 17 counties with ozone levels that can be detrimental to the health of residents. 

High levels of air pollution can result in wheezing and coughing, asthma attacks, heart attacks, and premature death, the American Lung Association said.
