UPDATE, Tuesday, 2:30 p.m.: A “severe thunderstorm warning” will be in effect for most of Brooklyn and Queens until 3 p.m.

NEW YORK CITY, NY — Forecasters with the National Weather Service (NWS) blasted out a couple last-minute weather premonitions Tuesday afternoon, advising that “torrential rainfall” falling on recently frozen NYC streets would likely cause “minor urban flooding of low lying poor drainage areas“ through Tuesday evening.

“Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways,” the NWS warned.

Some pretty brutal winds could hit the city Tuesday as well. “A narrow band of heavy showers along with isolated thunderstorms may cause wind gusts of at least 58 mph as it moved east across the region this afternoon,” the NWS said.

AccuWeather is warning that said winds could also cause some coastal flooding along the NYC shoreline.
