Owners Of Brooklyn's Verde Plan 2nd Restaurant On Smith Street
Owners of the popular brunch spot have plans for a new restaurant across the street, where Chance Asian Bistro once stood.

BROOKLYN, NY — Fans of popular brunch spot Verde might soon have a new eatery to try on Smith Street.
The owner of the Italian restaurant have unveiled plans to Community Board 6's Permits and Licenses Committee this week for a new family establishment across the street at 223 Smith St., where Chance Asian Bistro once stood.
The new spot, yet to be named, will bring an American menu to the corner space near Butler Street, hopefully with the same success owner Murat Erdogan found down the block, applicants said.

"Murat has experience at running a restaurant," Robert Callahan, a consultant helping with the application, told the committee. "Everybody seems to love that place."
The committee unanimously approved the application, which will head to the full board next month.

The new 2,480-square-foot restaurant will include eight tables and a 10-seat bar with a similar set up as Chance's Asian Bistro, Callahan and Erdogan said.
It will include a classic American menu of soups, salads, sandwiches and small entrees that are previewed in its application.
Erdogan said the restaurant doesn't currently plan to set up a traditional sidewalk cafe or use the backyard, which would need renovation to meet entrance and exit requirements.
It could set up a few tables under coronavirus outdoor dining rules, but likely won't need to if indoor dining continues to be allowed, Erdogan said.
"The cases are going down, the vaccine is going up…I think things are getting better in New York and I don’t think we’ll be using it," he told the committee.
The eatery will be open until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday — hours that were welcome news to neighbors who chimed in at the meeting.
"The previous tenant was not the greatest, so it looks like we have the opportunity for maybe an upgrade here, and that is a good thing," the tenant above the new eatery told the committee.
The application will face Community Board 6's full board on April 14. The final say on liquor licenses rests with the State Liquor Authority.
