PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Take a break from streaming endless cat videos on your phone for once — to watch them on the big screen instead. Park Slope's Nitehawk Theater will host a screening Tuesday of the nationwide compilation known as CatVideoFest, a reel of the country's best and most popular cat videos.

The screening, hosted at theaters across the country, will bring a 70-minute highlight reel of the year's best cat videos sourced from submissions, animations, music videos and, obviously, viral internet sensations. And the best part, the whole thing raises money for local cats in need.

"What better way for us humans to come together than by watching cats?," the video festival asks.

The screening will start at Nitehawk's Prospect Park West location at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The theater recently put out a last call for tickets, noting that there were only a limited amount left to get in on the fun.

The video festival raises money for cats in need in the area by partnering with local cat charities, animal welfare organizations and shelters, its website said. r

"By focusing our fundraising efforts on behalf of local shelters and organizations, we’re able to divert money and attention directly to the places and causes that need it most," the organization said.

Money has gone to issues such as the feral cat population in some areas or spaying and neutering efforts in others, depending on where the need is.

The movie is meant to be family-friendly and is appropriate for all viewing demographics, organizers said.

Nitehawk is one of only two theaters hosting the feline compilation in the city. New Plaza Cinema, found on the Upper West Side at 1871 Broadway will also host a screening on April 7, according to CatVideoFest's website.
