PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Park Slope's outdoor dining and shopping destination will expand its hours just in time for Fourth of July weekend, according to organizers.

The Fifth Avenue Open Street, which has closed to traffic each Saturday since springtime, will expand into Sundays for the rest of the season, starting on the July 4 holiday, according to the Business Improvement District.

The Sunday hours, also from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., come after the Fifth Avenue Open Street was chosen to become one of the city's new "Open Boulevards."

Ten corridors across the city are participating in the new program, first announced earlier this month as a "supercharged" version of Open Streets and Open Restaurants, which closes certain blocks to traffic to allow New Yorkers to walk, ride, dine and shop in the roadway.

In Park Slope, the Open Boulevard led organizers to designate a side street off Fifth Avenue as an "open plaza." The Fourth Street block will be set up with tables and chairs on Saturdays and on Sundays hosts the Down to Earth Farmer's Market, organizers said.

More cultural events are expected for the plaza later in the summer, the BID said.

The Open Street will run through September.

Here's the rest of the blocks that are part of the Open Street:

  • Dean to Park
  • Sterling to Berkeley
  • President to Fourth - with Fourth street between Fourth-Fifth avenues closed as a seating plaza on Saturday and farmers market on Sunday
  • 10th to 13th
  • 15th to 16th
