Park Slope Pharmacist Closes After 34 Years On Seventh Avenue

PARK SLOPE, NY — A pharmacy that has been a fixture on Seventh Avenue for more than three decades closed their doors for good last week after owners posted they were retiring.

The owners of Ansonia Chemist, at 358 Seventh Ave., posted a sign on their storefront announcing the spot was closing after 34 years in the neighborhood.

"It is with heavy hearts that after 34 years of service to our Park Slope Community we are retiring," owners Dennis Desimone and John Ferrandino wrote on the sign, according to a photo posted on Twitter.

"We are honored and privileged to have been a part of your lives."

News of the pharmacy closing was met with a pouring of support from residents in the neighborhood, with some writing that they'll miss the spot on the sign and others taking to social media to mourn the loss of the store.

"Lovely, kind people, will be missed by many," local blog One More Folded Sunset wrote on Twitter.

Ansonia was even mourned by one of Park Slope's most famous residents, Patrick Stewart, who wrote on Twitter that he will "miss these guys so much."

The owners of Ansonia could not be reached for comment and the phone number of the pharmacy transferred to the nearby CVS on Ninth Street.
