Plans Underway For New Bar At Johnny Mack's In Park Slope
Two restaurateurs have applied to transfer Johnny Mack's liquor license to open a new bar and restaurant named Honeysuckle in the space.

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — A new bar and restaurant is likely on its way to the space Johnny Mack's has called home for two decades on Eighth Avenue, Patch has learned.
Local restaurateurs Georgia and Kevin Read won the support of Community Board 6's Permits and Licenses Committee this week for an application to transfer the liquor license at the 1114 Eighth Ave. storefront to a new business named "Honeysuckle," which will serve American food from the corner spot.
The eatery would be the latest venture for the Reads, who also own Alchemy in Park Slope and Hamilton's in Windsor Terrace, both of which have been open around a decade.

But the exact details of the transfer are still in the works, according to both owners.
Reached by phone Wednesday, an owner at Johnny Mack's told Patch they had not yet signed any contracts with the new owners and could not discuss the deal until they did so.

"Nothing is finalized," the owner, who identified herself as Samantha, told Patch. "...There's no comment right now."
The Reads also declined to comment, adding that they will likely be able to share more details in a few weeks.
Should the plans on the liquor license application pull through, the new bar will include 23 indoor tables, a nine-seat bar and six outdoor tables, according to the application.
A sample menu shows the eatery would serve breakfast and brunch, including an "Irish Benedict," Shakshuka and avocado toast. The dinner line-up includes appetizers ranging from fresh oysters to vegan nachos and a list of entrees, including a pizza and flatbread menu.
The liquor license would allow the restaurant to stay open until 4 a.m., though Georgia Read told the committee the operating hours would close the eatery several hours earlier. The outdoor area would close at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on weekends, per neighborhood rules, according to the committee meeting.
The application, which will ultimately be decided by the State Liquor Authority, will head next to the board's Executive Committee since the full board is in its summer break in July.
