Sanford Harmony Program and Long Island University Visit PS 282
SANFORD HARMONY AND LIU VISITED PS 282 TO PROMOTE POSITIVE PEER INTERACTIONS

In honor of the “Week of the Young Child,” the Sanford Harmony Program, through its regional partnership with Long Island University, visited PS 282 in Park Slope on Friday, April 20. This research-based social emotional learning program is designed to promote positive peer interactions and relationships among all students through lessons and activities that encourage communication, collaboration, and mutual respect. The program is credited with improved academic performance, increased empathy and a more positive attitude towards school. The findings also identified reductions in stereotyping and classroom aggression.
Mrs. Lopez's kindergarten students (shown here) also enjoyed playing with loveable “Z”, the central character of the Sanford Harmony elementary curriculum. Sanford Harmony was envisioned and initially funded by noted philanthropist Denny Sanford and is currently impacting more 200,000 students in New York through its regional partnership with Long Island University, and more than 1 million students nationwide through National University.
