Smorgasburg Returns To Brooklyn Spots For 1st Time Since Pandemic

The popular food festival, which ran a to-go only location in 2020, is coming back to the Williamsburg waterfront and Prospect Park in June.

BROOKLYN, NY — Popular food festival Smorgasburg is on its way back to the Williamsburg waterfront and Prospect Park for the first time since before the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival, which operated in a to-go set-up last year from a smaller location, has announced opening dates for all of its New York City spots, including Prospect Park and its flagship at Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg.

The 2021 line-up will include in-person vendors and the continuation of "Smorg Delivered," an option for customers to have food delivered or picked-up at the festival spots through a partnership with Seamless and Grubhub, organizers said.

The return of Smorgasburg comes as the festival celebrates its 10th anniversary in New York.

Organizers are still looking for vendors — specifically entrepreneurs who are women, LGBTQ+ or people of color — after losing many previous vendors due to the financial strain of the pandemic. Those interested in applying should go to Smorgasburg's website.

Here's what you need to know about the New York City openings:

Prospect Park:

  • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays, starting June 13
  • 35 vendors, fewer than in past years to reduce venue crowding. The Sunday market in Prospect Park, in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance, includes a full bar, more than 60,000 square feet of lawns and open space.

Williamsburg:

  • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays, starting June 26
  • 35+ vendors. Smorgasburg will join the revisioning of the park (which was renamed for late trans activist of color, Marsha P. Johnson) by targeting outreach with the goal of ushering in a new wave of employees and vendors from the LGBTQ+ community, particularly people of color and a renewed commitment to cleaning up a larger radius around the market on Saturdays. Smorg Delivered available on Seamless.

Hester Street/Lower East Side:

  • 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays + Sundays, starting July 3+4
  • 12 vendors. Hester Flea market opened in May, before state regulations allowed for a food market. Starting in July, the location will pivot to a community-focused Smorgasburg—still with a few flea vendors. Smorg Delivered available on Seamless.

World Trade Center:

  • 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, opened May 21
  • 5 vendors (increasing to 10 by July); Current five vendors: Bona Bona Ice Cream, Carlito’s Barbecue Taqueria, Mao’s Bao, Rooster Boy, and Wood Fired Edibles.
