'Well-Behaved' Brooklyn Raccoon Put Up For Adoption On Craigslist

PARK SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Craigslist isn't dead yet. Not as long as it's serving up ingenious local content like this (almost certainly fake) new listing for a "very well-behaved" Park Slope raccoon named Mr. Jiggles, posted over the weekend in Brooklyn's "for sale" section.

Mr. Jiggles was raised on a raccoon farm in New Mexico, the Craigslist ad says, and made the cross-country move to Park Slope so his current owner could open "a boutique planter box shop" in the neighborhood.

But now, his alleged owner laments, "I will be moving in with my boyfriend who is deathly allergic." So Mr. Jiggles needs to find a new home.

Patch could not confirm whether a raccoon named Mr. Jiggles is really up for adoption in Park Slope, or whether he really comes with "food, raccoon undies and a hand made nest," as claimed on Craigslist. An email sent to whoever posted the listing went unreturned Monday.

But considering the Craigslist pic of "Mr. Jiggles" is actually a screenshot of Rocksy, the Florida raccoon who went viral in September 2015 for banging adorably on his adopted family's sliding glass door with a rock (video below), and considering how very, very illegal it is to keep a raccoon as a pet in NYC (much less declare as much on the internet), we're going to go ahead and assume this whole thing is a hoax. A very on-point and relevant hoax, but a hoax nonetheless. Good one, User No. 2rwmn-6309954335.
