SOUTH SLOPE, BROOKLYN — Nearly 100 Citi Bike stations could soon line the blocks south of Prospect Park.

The city's Department of Transportation has unveiled a draft of where it plans to set up docks in the bike sharing network's expansion to Windsor Terrace, South Slope and Sunset Park.

The map — developed after a "Suggest a Station" survey about the area — shows more than 80 stations are slated for the neighborhoods' streets and sidewalks, increasing the existing stations in the area 40-fold.

Currently, two stations near Industry City have been Citi Bike's only foray into Brooklyn south of Prospect Park.

The new plan would bring stations to each of the neighborhoods' subway stops and around its major parks, the map shows.

The drafted map was developed through the suggestions survey, a review of the various potential sites and with the idea of creating a network for the bike share, according to a presentation the department gave to Community Board 7's Transportation Committee on Monday.

Officials aimed for the stations to be every few blocks, or a three to five minute walk, and focused larger stations at major destinations, including transit hubs, according to the plans.

The map's release comes as DOT and Lyft, who runs Citi Bike, prepare for a question-and-answer session about the expansion this Thursday. The information session will be held at 6 p.m. through a Zoom link.

The drafted plan is the latest stage in Citi Bike's expansion plan across the five boroughs, which was announced last year as part of an initiative to make Citi Bike citywide.

Citi Bike, and cycling in general, has become more popular as New Yorkers look for new ways to get around during the coronavirus crisis.

The bike-share system recently hit its milestone of 100 million all-time rides and is expecting to break its record of 100,000 rides in a single day this year.

The Citi Bike expansion is set to be completed by the end of 2023.

In Brooklyn, it will also include stations in Bed-Stuy, Brownsville, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, East Flatbush, Prospect Park South and Kensington.
