2 Firefighters Save Boy Stuck In Rip Current At Long Island Beach
North Patchogue firefighters Justin Owen and Steven Welsh were enjoying a day off at the beach when they saw a boy in distress.

SMITH POINT COUNTY PARK — Two local firefighters enjoying a day off at a Long Island beach over the weekend sprung to action after a 12-year-old boy became stuck in a rip current.
North Patchogue firefighters Justin Owen and Steven Welsh were at Smith Point County Park in Shirley on Sunday when they were alerted to a child being sucked out to sea by the current.
Owen and Welsh swam out to the boy and pulled him back up from underwater, kept him afloat, and brought him back to his parents on the shore. The boy was evaluated by medical personnel and not hurt.
