Man Fighting His Arrest Pushes Officer Into A Dumpster, Then Spits On Another At Hospital In E. Patchogue: PD
The officer was treated for her injuries at NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue, Suffolk police say.
BELLPORT, NY — A North Bellport man hurt an officer by pushing her into a dumpster as he struggled during his arrest and then spat on another after he was taken to the NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue on Tuesday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
Officers were called to a laundromat on Montauk Highway at around 12:30 p.m. over a report of a disturbance, and Mark Burns, 25, of North Bellport, struggled with them as they tried to place him under arrest for trespassing, according to police.
He ended up pushing one of the officers into a dumpster, hurting her, causing minor injuries, police said, adding that when he was being treated at the hospital for his own minor injuries, he spat on another officer at the hospital.

He was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest, and second-degree obstructing governmental administration, all misdemeanors, as well as second-degree harassment, a violation.
He was also charged with second-degree assault, a felony.

In addition to the charges he faces from Tuesday, Burns also has two active bench warrants for which the details are not available, a police spokeswoman said.
And he was charged in connection with two previous petit larcenies, including stealing a bicycle and tools from outside of a home on Doane Avenue in July, and swiping tools from a shed at a home on Bellport Avenue on Nov. 7, she said.
He was also charged with third-degree criminal trespass in connection with the Bellport Avenue incident, according to police.
It was not immediately clear if he has legal representation.
His arraignment details have not yet been available.
