EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — Long Island Community Hospital officials are seeking regulatory approval — in hopes of inking a deal by the end of 2021 — on an affiliation with NYU Langone Health, which would extend the New York City-based health system’s network into eastern Long Island.

The move would make the resources of the highly-ranked academic medical center to the over 400,000 people served by the hospital, according to a news release. The health systems announced that officials had signed a letter of intent as a precursor on the merger back in April.

Dr. Robert Grossman, dean and chief executive officer of NYU Langone Health, said the health system’s staff has been “working closely” with the hospital “over the last several months to assess whether a partnership” between the institutions would “benefit each of our organizations, the Long Island community, and the patients and families who turn to us for help.”

“Today’s agreement publicly confirms our confidence that an affiliation will allow both of our institutions to collaborate and share best practices to better meet the healthcare needs of the communities we serve,” he said.

LI Community Hospital’s president and chief executive officer Richard Margulis said officials have been “successful in completing this agreement with NYU Langone because both of our organizations share compatible cultures which value the highest standard in medical excellence.”

LI Community Hospital offers a range of services, such as an Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion, the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, and two outpatient wound care centers. It also has facilities for hemodialysis, home care, and primary care through multiple locations throughout the surrounding area.
