TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, NY — As the unofficial start of summer is approaching, officials announced that four beaches within the Town of Brookhaven will open for Memorial Day weekend, with certain restrictions amid the coronavirus crisis. The beaches that will be open include Davis Park on Fire Island, Cedar Beach (main beach) in Mt. Sinai, Corey Beach in Blue Point and West Meadow in Stony Brook.

These beaches will be limited to town residents only, with parking reduced by 50 percent to ensure
social distancing at these facilities. During the holiday weekend, the beaches will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with all parking lot gates locked at 6:30 p.m. Residents can bring umbrellas and blankets, but must maintain social distancing on the beach.

Face masks or coverings must be worn in areas outside of the water or general beach area. Lifeguards will be on duty, and residents can go into the water, but swimming is limited. Restrooms will be open while the beaches are open and will be cleaned and sanitized by staff every hour. After Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, beaches will have no public restroom facilities or lifeguards during weekdays.
