Buttermilk’s 'Farm Meets Chic' Breakfast Spot Opens in Patchogue

New breakfast/lunch spot promises signature pancakes and a whole lot more

A much-anticipated restaurant emphasizing “from-scratch” recipes and classic dishes with a twist is waking-up palettes across the village.

Buttermilk’s, a 90-seat restaurant which opened on August 29th in Patchogue Village, is quickly becoming a go-to option for breakfast and lunch.

Kendra H. from Bellport said on Yelp! that it felt like she was “waiting forever” for Buttermilk’s to open.

“The place is a lovely mix of farmhouse chic decor with unique cow pictures hanging up on the walls,” she wrote. “I have to admit the food here is really good! You won't regret giving them a try,” adding that the pancakes are “probably some of the best I've ever had!”

Buttermilk’s founding partner Alicia DiStefano said the restaurant has been very well received.

“We have absolutely loved being here in Patchogue Village,” said DiStefano, adding that the neighboring businesses have been extremely welcoming and we’ve had a wonderful, warm reception from the Chamber of Commerce and local people in the area.”

DiStefano, who has more than 15 years’ experience in the restaurant industry said that despite having a few “kinks” to work out, as with any new business, “we’ve been rolling ever since.”

She also added that Buttermilk’s menu is “where it should be.”

That menu features custom-made Omelettes using all-organic, cage-free eggs, an assortment of salads and wraps and of course Buttermilk’s signature made-from scratch batter pancakes.

DiStefano said that some favorite dishes among diners include the Gump Benedict, an eggs benedict rendition made with shrimp, Apple-Pie Pancake, Stuffed pancakes with Nutella, and gourmet grilled cheeses are “heavy hitters,” although she adds that all breakfast items are big sellers.

Other staples include Classic French Toast on Brioche bread and pies by the slice from the popular Briermere Farms in Riverhead.

An array of craft beers such as Montauk Wave Chaser IPA and Bluepoint Toasted Lager are also featured.

The ownership group of Buttermilk’s is rounded out by Albert Dandrea, Joseph Governale and Vincent Prestigiacomo, all veterans of the pizzeria business, where not coincidentally is where DiStefano began her culinary career.

“I started at age 15 as a pizza counter girl working for Albert and Joseph,” said DiStefano, who always envisioned owning her own restaurant one day. “I remember telling them that I wanted to own a restaurant after college,” she recalled.

But, DiStefano had always liked the idea of a breakfast/lunch spot…that served-up hearty grilled cheeses and traditional breakfast items.

As for the business concept of focusing on breakfast and lunch instead of dinner? DiStefano said it all boils down to execution.

“If you take time to develop recipes properly, then you’ll be successful,” she says. “You can’t cut corners, because it will show in the end.”

DiStefano adds that Buttermilk’s management team has put a lot of effort in from the service to the food and décor.

“I hope people will see that when they come in.”

Buttermilk’s, located at 76 West Main Street in Patchogue Village, is open 7 days/week for breakfast and lunch from 7:30AM-3:30PM.
