Rise and Shine! DAR member Mildred Zimmerman and Regents Rita Newman (Anna Smith Strong Chapter), Sarah Sward O'Connor (Ketamawoke Chapter), and Dr. Joan Graham Nathan (Col. Josiah Smith Chapter) worked together with joy on Nov. 19th to decorate the Christmas Tree at Longwood Estate! This service to Community helps ready this historic house for when Santa comes on December 7th! (The historic estate is open Monday- Friday from 9-3. This 18th century home is part of land owned by William “Tangier” Smith).

During the Revolutionary War, William Floyd moved his livestock from his estate on the south shore to this land. Long Island was under British occupation at this time. This move saved the farm! William Floyd went on to be a signer of the Declaration of Independence. This home is a most important part of our history! DAR aims to preserve historic landmarks, history, and promote the love of our flag in the communtiy. The daughters honor their ancestors who supported the cause of freedom, sacrificed lives and fortunes, and fought for the freedom we enjoy today. Do you think you are a direct descendant of an American Revolutionary War Patriot? Contact Joan Nathan at darsamuelprice@gmail.com She will put you in touch with the chapter nearest you!
