Marcelo Lucero Vigil Saturday

A vigil in remembrance of Marcelo Lucero is taking place Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Iglesia Evangelica Refugio De Salvacion, 102 Railroad Ave. in Patchogue.

Lucero, a 37-year-old Ecuadorean immigrant, was killed on Nov. 8, 2008 after being attacked by a group of teenagers with one of them, Jeffrey Conroy, fatally stabbing Lucero. Conroy is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence after being convicted of manslaughter as a hate crime in 2010.

This year's vigil memorializes the five-year anniversary of the murder.
