New Year To Bring New Changes To Patchogue Restaurant

PATCHOGUE, NY — The new year will bring new changes to a Patchogue business.

The popular Colombian restaurant, Gallo, on 3 E. Main Street announced last week it will be closed throughout the month of January.

During the closure, the eatery will be undergoing a complete renovation.

Owner David Bustamante told Patch for its 19th year in business, the family-owned restaurant will be completely "gutted."

Bustamante and his father and opened the restaurant in 2002 along with his mother and sister, taking over the former Georges Luncheonette.

"When we came into Patchogue it was only Reeses and the Brickhouse," he said. "So on the actual Main Street we are number two or one of the first. We started with only one side of the building and 3 years in we purchased it and started to expand little by little."

The restaurant has already undergone several changes over the years, with the family adding or changing something in the business every January.

First, the eatery expanded the dining area to add 50 more seats and added the first set of French doors to allow customers to get the outdoor feeling inside. They also changed the floors in the dining room and before that excavated the basement. Then last year, they converted the former office space upstairs into a catering hall.

Sadly, that was the last project before Bustamante's father passed away from COVID-19 in April.

This year restrooms and bar side of the business will be the new project.

While an exact re-opening date has not yet been announced, Bustamante hopes to be back serving customers by late January or early February. Residents can check Gallo's social media for updates.
