Mammography Van—May 15

On May 15 from 10am-2pm, Senator Weik will be teaming up with Stony Brook
Medicine to bring to the Patchogue community a mobile mammography van for breast cancer
screenings. NYS-registered radiologic technologists with advanced training in mammography
will perform the screenings. The impressive custom-designed 40-foot van offers a comfortable
waiting area, private dressing room and a complete exam room. The screening van will be
parked in the rear of the Patchogue-Medford Library on Saturday, May 15. Eligibility
requirements include: females over 40 years old who have had no mammograms in the past year,
not pregnant or breastfeeding, no implants or breast issues, never diagnosed with breast cancer,
and an office visit within the past year with a gynecologist, primary care physician or internist
who is willing to accept the results of the screening. Eligible and interested individuals may

“Shed the Meds”—May 22

On May 22 from 12pm-2pm, a second event in the Patchogue community will be a Shed
the Meds Program where Senator Weik will be joining the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department
in efforts to help keep unused and unneeded medications out of the hands of young children and
others who may abuse them. Suffolk County Sheriff officers will be located at the back entrance
to the Patchogue-Medford Library on the day of the event, allowing individuals to drive up and
drop off any expired or unneeded prescriptions medications. All medications will be disposed of
in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, ultimately preventing pollution of our ground
water.
