Storm May Snarl Travel; Snow Possible On LI After Thanksgiving

If you are traveling for Thanksgiving, it may be a rough ride on Wednesday, the busiest travel day of the year.

There's a chance of showers on the island beginning Wednesday afternoon, but powerful winds may end up causing most of the problems. Gusts of 40-50 mph are likely across much of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Wednesday through Thanksgiving morning.

"Winds are forecast to increase around the eastern Great Lakes during Tuesday night and become strong and gusty over much of the Northeast from Wednesday afternoon into Thanksgiving Day," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski says. "Increasing winds could end up being very disruptive to travel in the region."

Another storm is expected to impact the island over the weekend and it may be bring some snow, the National Weather Service says. There is currently a 40 percent chance of snow on Saturday night. No accumulation estimates have been made.

Monday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 38. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Tuesday- Sunny, with a high near 60. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Tuesday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 43. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday- A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Light and variable wind becoming south 12 to 17 mph in the morning.

Wednesday Night- A 40 percent chance of showers before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Breezy, with a west wind 20 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph.

Thanksgiving Day- Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. Windy.

Thursday Night- Partly cloudy, with a low around 31. Blustery.

Friday- Sunny, with a high near 43.

Friday Night- Mostly clear, with a low around 30.

Saturday- Partly sunny, with a high near 42.

Saturday Night- A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.

Sunday- A chance of rain and snow. Cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Sunday Night- A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 38. Breezy.
