Dress for Success Brookhaven serves women across Long Island, providing them with the employment services and support network necessary to help them achieve economic independence. The virtual event, which was held from May 1 to May 9, raised close to $8,000, which will go towards providing 100 women career counseling, mentoring and professional attire for their job interviews.
“So many women have seen their jobs disappear and their employment prospects diminish as a result of this pandemic,” said Brian Keating, Director of the USWU’s Joint Apprentice Training Center (JATF) in Bohemia, NY. “We are proud to work with Dress for Success Brookhaven to help give these women a leg up as they seek out their next employment opportunity.”

Keating has actively supported the charity for the past four years, not only through donations and event sponsorships but also by appearing on panels designed to educate women in need about the valuable apprenticeship opportunities that are open to them at the JATF and similar facilities.
“We have been very impressed with the work that Dress for Success Brookhaven has done to help women achieve greater success in their careers, and we saw a lot of synergies with our own programs at the JATF, which offer another opportunity for women to secure a valuable union job, complete with full medical and guaranteed wage increases, and earn a formal education, at no cost to them,” said Keating.
Since its inception in 1999, Dress for Success Brookhaven has suited more than 6,500 women. The organization matches its participants with a personal shopper who provides the attire most appropriate for each woman’s specific needs. Participants also have access to a Career Center, which offers resume review, interview training and more, as well as a Professional Women’s Group for continued networking opportunities.
