Vogel Selected Pre-Season All-American

Patchogue-Medford junior is getting ready for big junior campaign.

It’s been an eventful off-season for Patchogue-Medford junior Matt Vogel.

He won his second goal medal when the United States U16 National Team beat Cuba, 9-0, to capture the 2011 IBAF World Youth Championship over the summer in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico.

Later, Vogel made a guest appearance at Longwood High School to give a motivational speech to students in their Police Athletic League Reach program.

And just before his junior season at Pat-Med is about to begin, Vogel received news that he was selected as a Pre-Season All-American by Louisville Slugger.

Vogel, who gave a verbal commitment to South Carolina last season and still has two full seasons of high school baseball left, is one of the top recruits in the nation. Whether he sticks with his scholarship to college or not, he will most likely be drafted by a Major League team as a senior.

Before that though, he has to focus on playing in Suffolk County and getting back to his All-State, All-Long Island, All-County and All-League form that he used last year to lead the Raiders to a post-season appearance.
