Zizzo Breaks Program Record in St. Joseph's Women's Basketball's 79-31 Win Over Yeshiva

Zizzo shot 7-13 from behind the arc to set a new program record for made three-pointers in a single game

New York, NY| Senior Jackie Zizzo scored a career-best 22 points to give the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's basketball team its first Skyline Conference win of the season in a 79-31 victory over Yeshiva on Tuesday night. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 2-6 (1-4 Skyline) while the Maccabees slide to 2-7 (0-6 Skyline).

SJC would get on the board first courtesy of an Andrea Iavarone layup 20 seconds into the game. Down 5-0 a minute in, the Maccabees rode a 6-0 run to the 3:30 mark for the one point lead over the visitors. Zizzo's three-point basket sparked a 12-0 run for the Golden Eagles to close out the quarter with an 11-point lead (17-6).

SJC opened the second frame with a 10-2 run to hold a 19-point advantage over the hosts (27-8) at 6:32. Tess Blaustein attempted to end the run with a made three-pointer, but SJC countered with a 12 of the half's final 15 points to wrap the first with a commanding 39-14 lead.

Iavarone continued to pace the Golden Eagles' offense in the third quarter tallying seven points to help SJC widened its gap 42 points.

After entering the final frame up 63-21 Zizzo drained her sixth three-pointer of the game to extend SJC's lead to 45 points (66-21). With 1:28 remaining in the match, the Golden Eagles would hold their largest lead (79-29) before earning the 79-31 win.

Zizzo shot 7-13 from behind the arc to set a new program record for most three-pointers in a single game. Additionally, the senior guard grabbed three boards, tallied four assists, and three steals on the night.

Iavarone led all scorers with 26 points in addition to adding 15 rebounds and one block. Juliana Cintron-Leonardo tallied 10 points on the night.
The Golden Eagles outshot Yeshiva 45.5%-17.5%, but the Maccabees held the advantage on the boards, 48-45.

The Golden Eagles and Maccabees meet again this Sunday, December 18 to play the remaining 6:33 of their November 29th match that was suspended in the fourth quarter.
