Registration Now Open for Young Writers Summer Workshops - Writing in the Park

The Writing in the Park Summer Series is coming to your area this summer to help your young writers nurture their creative instincts.

Registration for this year’s summer series of Writing in the Park is now open!

Kids, ages 10-18, are invited to participate in a one-of-a-kind experience! Participants learn strategies to invent, develop, and revise material using the writer’s most essential tools—language, imagination, craft, sight, and insight.

Writers will have the opportunity to participate in instructor-led peer workshops. They’ll have the opportunity to examine some exceptional modern works, in order to become more astute readers.

All of this will take place in places that will nurture the creative mind and spirit, like eastern, north shore Long Island parks, beaches, and nature preserves in the Rocky Point/Sound Beach, Mt. Sinai/Miller Place, and Shoreham/Wading River areas.

The young writers will have the unique and distinct opportunity to learn from college English writing professors and writers in the field, including those working for companies like Nickelodeon, Amazon, iTunes, and MTV.

Each week, students will meet in one of the lovely north shore, eastern Suffolk County parks or beaches to learn, free write, and workshop their writing.

At the end of the month-long program, students will have the opportunity to perform their work with and for their peers, in order to give relevance and importance to their writing at an Open Mic night that will take place at a local venue. They will perform some of the pieces they’ve been working on for their families, friends, and peers! This is exciting for them and it’s always the highlight of the summer.

Each month-long session will cover fiction, creative non-fiction, screen and playwriting, and poetry. Each session is limited to six participants, so hurry and reserve your child’s spot!
