11 Westlake High Students Named National Merit Scholars

Four of the students will have a chance to compete for scholarships on a national level.

WESTLAKE, OH — Eleven Westlake High School students have been named scholars in the 65th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Seniors Yusra Albarghouthi, Ayah Aldosari, Chloe Chen, Molly Finucane, Nathan Hsiao, Benjamin Routhier and Jack Williams were named National Merit Commended Scholars for their academic promise and their performance on the PSAT. They are now eligible to become candidates for special scholarships provided by corporate and business sponsors.

Seniors Seohyun Choi, Richard Garber, Eric Kronz and Teagan Walsh were named National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists. They will move on and compete for 7,500 scholarships worth more than $31 million.

More than 1.5 million high school juniors entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Less than 1 percent of those students make it to the semifinalist round.
