54-Year-Old Found Dead Outside Westlake Recreation Center

Police believe the man may have killed himself.

WESTLAKE, OH — A 54-year-old man was found dead outside the Westlake Recreation Center on Monday morning, police announced.

At 7:00 a.m., the 54-year-old was discovered near the fishing bond outside the recreation center. He was slumped over on a bench. When police and paramedics arrived, the man was already dead, police said.

Officers secured the scene and then investigated the man's death. A gun and other evidence was found in the park. Surveillance footage suggests the man came to the park alone.

Witnesses told police they believed the man killed himself, a Westlake police spokesperson said.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will determine the final cause of death.

"There is no reason to believe that any other persons were involved or there is any ongoing threat to the public," police said.

The 54-year-old's next of kin have been notified of his death.
