A fire broke out at a home on Knickerbocker Road in Westlake Thursday night, leaving one woman dead.
Fire department officials say an elderly married couple who they believed to be in their 80s occupied the home. Chief Christopher Lyons of the Bay Village Fire Department said the husband was able to escape the blaze without major injury, but unfortunately, his wife wasn’t so lucky.
Due to the intensity of the fire, which neighbors say left flames reaching more than 20 feet into the air, multiple surrounding fire departments, including those from Westlake and Avon Lake, were called in to assist Bay Village Fire in their efforts to battle the blaze.
