Drunken Driver Hits Barrel, Rolls Over Tree Lawn: Westlake Police

The driver had a suspended license and tested over the legal blood-alcohol limit, police said.

WESTLAKE, OH — On June 15, a drunken driver hit a construction barrel and then nearly struck a fire hydrant before being stopped by Westlake police.

At 3:30 a.m., a concerned driver called 911 because she believed another car on the road was being driven by an impaired driver. The caller was on Columbia Road, near Hilliard Boulevard. She said the drunken driver had hit a construction barrel and then rolled over a tree lawn without stopping.

Officers found the drunken driver and saw her car weaving around the road, police said. The car nearly struck a fire a hydrant so police pulled the vehicle over.

The driver appeared intoxicated and was given field sobriety tests, police said. She was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired and for having a suspended driver's license.

At Westlake Jail, the driver was given a breath test and tested over the legal limit, police said.
