Falling Tree Hits Car In Westlake, Traps, Injures Driver

Police said the falling tree also downed power lines and cracked three utility poles.

WESTLAKE, OH — Powerful winds blew through Northeast Ohio on Monday morning. The gusts brought down trees and wreaked havoc on parts of Westlake, according to police.

At 6:30 a.m., a tree fell on a car on Hilliard Boulevard, just west of Clague. The driver was trapped in her car by the tree limb. Police said the driver was hurt and had to be extracted from the car. She was taken to the hospital by Westlake fire.

Police said the woman's injuries appear to be not life threatening.

The fallen tree also downed power and utility lines and cracked three separate utility poles.

As of 10 a.m., the road was still closed as crews tried to clean up the damage.

As of 10:15 a.m., more than 150 Westlake residents were without power.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Sunday night and Monday morning. The agency said wind gusts were expected to hit 55 mph or more.
