Lee Burneson Math Club Takes 2nd In National Competition
The annual Math Madness was very nearly won by a team of 15 students from Westlake.

WESTLAKE, OH — The Lee Burneson Middle School Math Club took second place in a national competition. The squad was part of AreteLabs Math Madness, which includes participants from 700 U.S. schools.
During the competition, students are given eight math problems. Students answer each question. The top five responses are then added together to create the team score. Teams compete against one another and the highest score advances. The tournament takes place over 10 weeks.
"Math Madness challenges students to use higher level thinking skills to solve problems that have real world application. It was wonderful to see these students encourage each other and problem solve throughout the competition. Their success was very much deserved, I am so proud of them!" said Lisa Zollos, the adviser for the club and an eighth grade math teacher at Lee Burneson.
