Lee Burneson Student Recovering from MRSA

District believes no risk to other students

A student is being treated for MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) infection, the announced.

A statement from the school said that the student, who is not involved in organized sports, contracted the infection somewhere away from school. According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, sports is a common way for MRSA to spread through skin-to-skin contact or towels.

The student has not been in school since the diagnosis and has received treatment for the infection. The district states that other students aren't at risk from this case.
