Suspects Lead Car Chase Through Westlake Into Avon: Blotter

Westlake police chased a pair of suspects onto I-90 and into Avon last week.

WESTLAKE, OH — Two people fled from Westlake police and led a chase onto I-90 and into Avon last week, according to police reports.

Theft, Feb. 20 — Someone broke into a locker at LA Fitness at Crocker Park and stole a customer's wallet and credit cards. The cards were later used at a Walmart in North Olmsted. Investigators are trying to get surveillance footage of the thief from the store.

Warrant serviced, Feb. 21 — Police stopped a car on I-90, near Columbia Road, for speeding. The driver had a suspended license and a warrant for domestic violence. The driver was taken to Cuyahoga County Jail and was cited for driving under suspension and speeding.

Fleeing, Feb. 23 — Two suspects sped away from police and drove on to I-90. The car drove into Avon, got off the highway at Nagle and drove down Chester. As traffic thickened, police called off the chase for safety reasons. Avon police then located the car in a parking lot near Route 83 and Chester. Officers converged on the area and found the suspects hiding behind a nearby dumpster. Both were taken into custody without incident. The driver was charged with felony fleeing. The passenger was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments, for needles, and receiving stolen property.

Warrant Served, Feb. 24 — Patrolling police saw a car pulling into and out of residential driveways on Hilliard Boulevard. The driver and passenger said they did not live on the street and didn't have any reason for being at the homes. They then admitted they had seen the police cruiser and were trying to avoid being arrested for warrants. The driver had a suspended license and was wanted for felony possession of cocaine in Medina County and obstruction in Lorain County. The passenger was also wanted in Lorain and Medina counties. Both driver and passenger were taken into custody and turned over to Lorain County sheriffs.
