Thieves Targeting Unlocked Cars At Gas Stations: Westlake Police
While you're pumping gas, someone might be stealing your purse.
WESTLAKE, OH — Thieves are targeting unlocked cars at gas stations, Westlake police warned.
While a driver is pumping gas, a thief will grab a purse or other valuable through a rolled-down window or unlocked door and then take off. In many cases, the person pumping gas doesn't even know something was taken, police said.
There are no recent thefts like this in Westlake, but surrounding cities are seeing an uptick in these crimes, police said.

"Please be aware of your surroundings and lock your property/take your keys whether you are close by or not. And PLEASE do not leave your car running when you go into the store. Car thieves just wait for opportunities," police said on social media.
Westlake police said they wanted to protect residents from being victimized, so they shared news of the recent thefts and how to protect yourself.
